A collaborative effort from the bowlers, complemented by crucial and timely batting performances from Faf du Plessis (30 runs off 23 balls), Leus du Plooy (24 runs off 23 balls), and Jonny Bairstow (14 runs off 14 balls), enabled the Jo’burg Super Kings to secure victory with the par score in a rain-affected match against MI Cape Town. After restricting MI Cape Town to 140 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs, the Super Kings had reached 82 runs for 3 wickets in 11.3 overs when rain halted play, preventing any further action. At that juncture, the chasing team was ahead of the par score by six runs according to the DLS method.
MI Cape Town navigate through tough batting conditions

MI Cape Town faced a challenging start to the match, mirroring the difficulties they encountered at the conclusion. Tasked with batting under demanding conditions, they found themselves at 21/2 during the PowerPlay. This precarious situation worsened to 30/4 by the ninth over, prompting Dewald Brevis and George Linde to unite in a brief display of resilience. Together, they propelled the team to a total of 73 before Brevis was dismissed in the 13th over. Azmatullah Omarzai followed shortly after, leaving MI Cape Town in jeopardy of collapsing to a score below 100.
Delano Potgieter, who had excelled with the ball in MI Cape Town’s season opener, demonstrated his batting skills by providing a target for his fellow bowlers in the second innings. He partnered with Linde to forge a 65-run partnership, with 52 runs coming off the final 24 deliveries. Potgieter concluded the MI Cape Town innings with a flourish, hitting six, four, and six in a 17-run 20th over, finishing with an impressive unbeaten score of 44 off 22 balls. Linde contributed with a solid 48* off 35.
Throughout the evening, the threat of rain loomed ominously, ultimately arriving during the sixth over of the Super Kings’ chase, which resulted in a delay of over an hour. After five overs, the DLS rule was applied, and at that point, the Super Kings were ahead of the required score at 36/1. Upon resumption of play, the target was adjusted to 136 runs from 140 balls, to be achieved in 19 overs.

Du Plessis, who played a crucial role in maintaining his team’s lead over the par score, was dismissed in the eighth over by Rabada, following an exceptional catch by Dewald Brevis at deep cover. Brevis leaped to intercept the ball high above his head at the boundary, tossed it into the air to avoid crossing the ropes, and then returned to secure the catch.
Du Plooy and Bairstow were cognizant of their position relative to the par score and managed to keep their team slightly ahead. In the same over that saw du Plessis’s dismissal, Rabada conceded four byes, while Bairstow struck Omarzai for a six over deep midwicket, bringing the Super Kings to 59/2 after 9 overs—just one run above the par score. The subsequent over from Potgieter proved pivotal, as the batting duo amassed 15 runs, including two fours and a six. A four off Rashid Khan followed in the next over as rain clouds began to gather ominously. Rabada heightened the tension by dismissing Bairstow in the next over, but only one more delivery could be bowled before the players were compelled to leave the field.
No further play was possible, and approximately 20 minutes after the interruption, the Super Kings secured the points by virtue of their lead over the par score.
