IPL 2025 Auction report: Full list of sold and unsold players and full squads of all 10 teams

The IPL 2025 mega auction took place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and concluded with considerable enthusiasm as all ten franchises completed their team rosters. During the two-day event at the Abadi Al Johar Arena, a total of 182 players were acquired, with franchises collectively investing ₹639.15 crore to enhance their squads for the forthcoming season.

In a significant change from prior seasons, IPL 2025 witnessed franchises prioritizing younger players and emerging talent over established veterans. This approach was highlighted by the fact that fast bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, and Naveen-ul-Haq, each valued at ₹2 crore, remained unsold.

The apparent disinterest in veteran pacers indicates that teams are increasingly focusing on dynamic athletes possessing particular skills or youthful energy to construct long-term, versatile rosters. Similarly, Piyush Chawla, a seasoned spinner with extensive IPL experience, went unsold, which suggests that franchises might be seeking more specialized spin alternatives or younger prospects in this area as well.

On the other hand, a record was created as 13 years old youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a left-hand top-order batter, has become the youngest player to earn an IPL deal, worth INR 1.10 crore (US$0.13 million approx.), from Rajasthan Royals (RR). Suryavanshi, has already played for India Under-19 and scored a century opening the batting against Australia Under-19 in a four-day game in Chennai less than two months ago.

It will be interesting to see how these young guns compete against experienced and veteran players and who will lift the IPL trophy in 2025. Here is the full list of sold and unsold players and how the 10 squads lineup after the IPL 2025 auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings have once more allocated significant financial resources to reacquire their former players, aiming for stability within the team. Rahul Tripathi, positioned at No. 3, provides an additional option for spin hitting, complementing Shivam Dube. The No. 5 position is likely to be filled by either Deepak Hooda or Vijay Shankar—two athletes who have experienced considerable inconsistency but now have the opportunity to revitalize their IPL careers within a franchise known for its supportive environment.

CSK has re-signed Sam Curran for 2.40 Crores, who is capable of serving as a versatile player in their lineup and will collaborate with Matheesha Pathirana in handling death-bowling responsibilities. Additionally, CSK made a significant move by acquiring the Afghanistan left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad for 10 Crores.

As per Stephen Fleming, Noor will be a wicket-taking option for the five-time champions through the middle-overs in Chepauk if pitches take turn. When they don’t, CSK can swap him out for Nathan Ellis, who too can bowl at the death. CSK also chased after a lot of Indian pacers on the second day, and ended up bringing in Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Choudhary, Gurjapneet Singh and Kamlesh Nagarkoti who can serve as able back-ups and a route to alter the overseas combinations.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

IPL 2025 Auction MI

On the second day of the auction, the Mumbai Indians possessed the second-largest budget and identified several areas needing reinforcement. They addressed the wicketkeeper position by acquiring Ryan Rickelton, Robin Minz, and Krishnan Shrijith. Additionally, the spin department was strengthened with the inclusion of Afghanistan’s enigmatic spinner Allah Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner.

The acquisition of Deepak Chahar has bolstered their pace attack. The composition of Mumbai’s lineup may depend significantly on their choice for the wicketkeeper-batter position. Should Rickelton be selected to open the batting, it is likely that there would be no place for Will Jacks. Conversely, if Jacks is chosen to open, the team would need to include either Minz or Shrijith as the wicketkeeper-batter in their starting eleven, thereby enabling the inclusion of a foreign player as an impact substitute.

The strong Indian batting core allows them to cover some of their flaws through the Impact Sub rule that could again give them a few options to play with. While it allows for a strong starting twelve, injuries to an Indian middle-order batter or Indian pacer could leave them slightly thin on back-up options and potentially mess with their combinations.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

IPL 2025 Auction KKR

As the reigning champions, KKR’s main objective was to retain as many members of their previous squad as feasible. They achieved considerable success in this endeavor, notably securing the impressive acquisition of Venkatesh Iyer for 23.75 crore. Although they aimed to re-sign Nitish Rana to strengthen their middle order, they were ultimately outmaneuvered in that pursuit, leading to the re-signing of Manish Pandey and Ajinkya Rahane.

On the second day, Spencer Johnson was acquired as a backup pacer to Anrich Nortje, and the team further enhanced their overseas roster by signing Rovman Powell and Moeen Ali. While the overall acquisitions are commendable, KKR may be contemplating the optimal utilization of either Pandey or Rahane, as it is anticipated that one of them will be included in the playing twelve. Notably, only the Rajasthan Royals have a smaller squad than KKR, with the three-time champions choosing to retain just 21 players.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

IPL 2025 Auction RCB

Having kept only three Indian players prior to the auction, RCB faced a significant rebuilding process. Notably, they chose not to utilize their available Right to Match (RTM) cards on Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, or Will Jacks, resulting in a completely transformed lineup for the upcoming season. In place of Siraj, they have acquired Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a two-time Purple Cap winner, who is capable of bowling effectively at both ends of a T20 innings.

Salt serves as a PowerPlay enforcer, while his teammate Livingstone contributes significant hitting prowess in the middle order and offers versatility in match-ups. Jitesh Sharma is expected to take on the finishing responsibilities previously held by Dinesh Karthik. The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s choice to refrain from making a substantial investment in one of the available ‘Big 3’ Indian players has allowed them to maintain a sufficient budget for a diverse selection of overseas players.

They have the option to adopt a 3-1 strategy and select the highly regarded English player Jacob Bethell, who would introduce a left-handed batting option to a predominantly right-handed top order. Alternatively, they could opt to pair their bounce bowler, Josh Hazlewood, with another overseas bowler such as Nuwan Thushara or Lungi Ngidi, allowing Devdutt Padikkal to open the batting. However, this would necessitate moving Virat Kohli down to the No. 3 position, which may not be the most favorable arrangement. The challenge for RCB lies in finalizing their preferred lineup and avoiding a season characterized by continual adjustments.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

IPL 2025 Auction GT

Gujarat Titans can be quite satisfied with their performance in the auction, successfully acquiring the majority of their preferred starting eleven players along with several backups for critical roles. On the second day, they focused on filling the void for a primary spinner by securing Washington Sundar early on, which simplified their subsequent decisions. Additionally, they effectively utilized the Right to Match option to retain R Sai Kishore, even though this required them to release Azmatullah Omarzai.

The bowling department looks stronger on paper with them having a few bases covered in terms of variety. A proven death bowler might be the only aspect they’re lacking there. And on the batting front, with Jos Buttler slotting in as a wicketkeeper and opener, they could afford to build around it.

They’ll be banking heavily on young Indian talent to see them through in the middle order with the likes of Glenn Phillips or Sherfane Rutherford adding some firepower through the middle. The lack of a big-name, proven Indian batter through this phase could be a point to think about but the squad offers a balanced look overall with a few combinations available to suit a variety of conditions.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

IPL 2025 Auction DC

DC would likely feel content with their recent days at the auction table, having assembled a team that balances youthful talent with seasoned experience. However, they would have preferred to secure a gun spinner to serve as a backup for Kuldeep Yadav. Nonetheless, they successfully acquired both a wicketkeeper and an opening batsman in KL Rahul at a competitive price, with Jake Fraser-McGurk—secured through the Right to Match (RTM) option—potentially partnering with him at the top of the order, followed by Abishek Porel.

Faf du Plessis serves as an overseas backup for the top-order lineup. The middle order appears robust with Harry Brook, Tristan Stubbs, and Ashutosh Sharma, while Sameer Rizvi is also a viable option within the squad. Axar Patel and Kuldeep will be supported by a versatile pace attack that includes Mitchell Starc, T Natarajan, Mohit Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar, for whom they utilized their other available Right to Match (RTM) card.

Donvan Ferreira is the backup keeper in the squad although both Rahul and Porel can keep, whereas Dushmantha Chameera the backup overseas pacer. Towards the end, DC added a bunch of uncapped allrounders.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

IPL 2025 Auction LSG

On the first day of the IPL auction, the Super Giants captured attention by acquiring Rishabh Pant, marking him as the highest-priced player in history, while also enhancing their squad with several talented individuals. Nevertheless, the team concluded the day with an overcrowded middle order and insufficient options for opening batsmen. This deficiency persisted into the second day, prompting team owner Sanjiv Goenka to suggest that Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh might be utilized as opening batsmen at the tournament’s outset.

The primary strength of the Super Giants is their pace attack, which is predominantly composed of Indian players and is bolstered by adequate backup alternatives. Nevertheless, their batting lineup includes numerous uncapped individuals, and the absence of established Indian players to step in during injuries may pose a considerable issue.

Additionally, the team lacks a second frontline spinner to partner Ravi Bishnoi and appears thin when it comes to their fifth bowling option. Starting Day 2 of the auction with a purse of INR 14.85 crore and 13 slots to fill, including four overseas spots, the Super Giants were unable to complete their overseas quota. This, combined with an untested group of backup players, might pose challenges to their squad balance if issues arise with their core lineup.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Rajasthan Royals, having invested significantly in retaining six players, had a relatively restrained presence at the auctions. However, they successfully acquired two of the premier talents in T20 cricket: fast bowler Jofra Archer and spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. This strategy indicated that they were not in contention for the leading batsmen available, a position in which they were already well-equipped due to their retained players.

An intriguing selection was the 13-year-old Vaibhav Raghuvanshi. By the conclusion of the auctions, although they have solid support in the pace department, there is insufficient backup in the batting lineup. Notably, aside from Kumar Kartikeya, they did not select any Indian spinners and will need to depend on the Sri Lankan duo of Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. Nevertheless, they have assembled a squad that could offer various options for the playing XI based on the conditions and the opposing team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad made a concerted effort to maintain the foundational characteristics of their team that enabled them to overcome a string of disappointing seasons and reach the final of IPL 2024. By retaining the core group of players, they sought to recruit individuals with similar attributes to those they had lost. The departures of Indian fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T. Natarajan were addressed through the acquisitions of Mohammed Shami and Harshal Patel.

The team features two legspinners, one being Indian (Rahul Chahar) and the other an overseas player (Adam Zampa), allowing for flexibility in their selection based on the overseas player combinations. Additionally, they have enhanced their already formidable lineup by signing Ishan Kishan, while Abhinav Manohar will assume the position previously held by Abdul Samad in the lower middle-order.
